You don’t have to limit listening to music to your downtime. It can also be a tool to enhance your workouts. Music can make exercising a more enjoyable experience, helping you get the most out of your exercise time. The right melody might take your mind off a tough workout and get you pumped up. It might even motivate you to do a few extra sets.
Workouts such as running and cycling can sometimes feel repetitive. Once you start bringing music into the mix, you may notice an improvement. The National Library of Medicine found that individuals listening to music while practicing cycling felt more motivated to increase their workout intensity. Next time you use a stationary bike, try putting on your favorite tunes and pedaling to the beat. If you prefer walking, grab your headphones to stay engaged and add excitement to your fitness plan. You can even coordinate your regimen with songs. During certain verses or the chorus of a song, assign exercises to these parts. This might be a fun and motivating way to create a personalized circuit. Fitness instructors choreograph their routines to songs too, so attend class if you are looking to just follow along.
Strength training is another type of exercise that you can pair with music. A study by the National Library of Medicine found that participants who listened to music they enjoyed were able to do about four more bicep curl reps. Listening to songs with empowering messages might give you the determination you need to reach your goals.
Discover your favorite songs and fuel your workouts. Let music boost your fitness journey.
